Visitors Information Centre

The Lightning Ridge Visitor Information Centre, located in Lions Park on Morilla Street (Bill O’Brien Way), serves as the welcoming gateway to this famous outback opal mining town in New South Wales. Staff and volunteers provide expert advice on local attractions, accommodations, road conditions, and regional highlights across the Walgett Shire.

Visitors can pick up detailed maps and instructions for the quirky Car Door Tours —self-drive routes marked by colourful painted car doors. These guide explorers to unique sights around the opal fields. The centre also stocks a wide range of souvenirs, gifts, opal-related items, and local merchandise.

Outside, a fossicking heap lets enthusiasts try their luck noodling for opal. Free WiFi, parking for caravans and coaches, and public facilities make it a practical stop. It’s open seven days, offering essential information to help visitors discover Lightning Ridge’s black opal heritage and rugged outback.
