The Opal Cave

The Opal Cave in Lightning Ridge is a well-known tourist attraction and opal showroom located right in the centre of town.

It’s designed like an underground mine experience, with tunnels, mining displays, and themed rooms showing how opal is found. Inside you can browse a huge range of black opals, jewellery, souvenirs, and opal crafts, and even rub and polish your own opal. Basically, it’s part museum, part shop, and part underground-style attraction showcasing Lightning Ridge’s famous opals.
