Living the dream

Our cool and settled weather typically commences during March/early April – around Easter time. Lightning Ridge change of seasons is not gradual and can occur almost overnight from high 30’s to low 20’s and everyone scrambles for their jeans and sweatshirts.

Once the weather has cooled, expect relatively consistent temperatures and calm, sunny days which are perfect for travelling, sightseeing, heading out to the opals fields, shopping and enjoying all that the Ridge has to offer.

Most of Lightning Ridge is open 7 days a week during this time (a few businesses close on Sundays). During these months we enjoy the outdoors and present annual events such as the Easter Festival, Opal & Gem Festival, Black Opal Classic Bowls Tournament and the famous Lightning Ridge Potch Queen – the latter requires a very open minded audience. 

Fun fact – we see around 200,000 visitors a year and the average length of stay is three days. In times of El Nino weather patterns, we are lucky if it rains twice during these months.
